Support for the Atomicals Protocol and ARC20 Fungible Tokens
Atomicals Foundation
Request to integrate support for the Atomicals Protocol and its ARC20 fungible token standard into Snapshot. This would allow communities building on Bitcoin using Atomicals to create and manage decentralized governance proposals, enabling token-weighted voting using ARC20 tokens.
Context:
The Atomicals Protocol is an emerging Layer 1 data and identity protocol built natively on Bitcoin. It expands the utility of Bitcoin by introducing programmable digital assets, including ARC20 fungible tokens, Realms (decentralized identities), and a pointer system for mutable content.
The protocol is currently in a CTO/community-driven phase, and a proposal and voting system would be instrumental in coordinating decisions, funding initiatives, and evolving protocol standards through transparent community input.
ARC20 tokens are similar in function to ERC20 tokens but are backed by individual satoshis 1:1, offering unique properties like fixed supply, immutable metadata, and Bitcoin-level security. These tokens are already being used across growing communities and dapps within the Atomicals ecosystem.
Use Cases:
- Enable communities built on Atomicals to use Snapshot for off-chain governance with ARC20 tokens.
- Allow holders of ARC20 tokens to vote on proposals and protocol upgrades.
- Encourage DAO formation and token-holder participation within the Bitcoin-native asset ecosystem.
- Drive adoption of Snapshot in the broader Bitcoin-based Web3 landscape.
Technical Considerations:
Atomicals assets are managed on Bitcoin via UTXO-based state transitions. ARC20 token ownership is determined by control over specific UTXOs. Support would require:
- Reading balances from a Bitcoin indexer that supports Atomicals (ElectrumX indexer: https://github.com/atomicals-community/atomicals-electrumx)
- Optional: Integration with Realms (RNS domains) as identities or ENS-style names.
- Optional: Extend support to ARC20's voting delegation or identity-linked voting through Realms.

ARC-20 This protocol has a very interesting future

Dear Snapshot team,
Integrating Atomicals would be a visionary and strategic decision. This protocol represents a natural evolution of Bitcoin, preserving its essence while enabling new capabilities directly on Layer 1, without compromising decentralization.
Atomicals is not just another protocol. It is Bitcoin in its purest form, now extended with native support for tokens, digital identities (REALMS), and decentralized applications — all happening directly on the Bitcoin network, without the need for second-layer solutions.
Right now, a vibrant and rapidly growing community is building tools, platforms, and real-world use cases on top of Atomicals. From governance to permanent storage, and even unique mining systems like Bitwork, this ecosystem is demonstrating constant innovation.
Integrating Atomicals into Snapshot would be a key step to empower decentralized governance within the Bitcoin ecosystem. It would open the doors to thousands of users who are seeking truly decentralized ways to organize and make decisions, anchored in the most secure network in the world.

It would be of great help if Snapshot could integrate the Atomicals protocol — a protocol that remains Bitcoin in its purest form. Make it happen. A strong and growing community is emerging within Atomicals. It's time to support it!
